Childbirth Preparation: Prenatal Class - 4 week Series
Welcome to your Childbirth Preparation class! This class is designed to help prepare expectant families for labor, birth and early parenting with our evidence-based, best-practice curriculum specific to your care in the Mayo Clinic Family Birth Center. Hands-on activities will reinforce what you learn in the classroom through presentations, videos, and supportive education materials. This class is taught by experienced childbirth educators who are Registered Nurses specializing in Obstetric, Neonatal, or Pediatric nursing. A video tour of the Family Birth Center will be included.
Class topics include:
- The process of labor and birth
- Comfort measures, breathing and relaxation practices, and labor support strategies
- Medical interventions, pain management options, and informed decision-making
- Early postpartum care and your adjustment to parenthood
- Newborn hospital procedures and health screenings
- Newborn characteristics and basic cares
It is recommended that you register early in your pregnancy for this class. We suggest you complete the class about one month before your due date. We recommend you are at least 24 weeks into your pregnancy at the start of the class series.
If your feeding plan is to provide breastmilk we recommend the Art of Breastfeeding and Pumping series. For first time expectant parents we also recommend the Infant Passenger Safety class, Infant CPR and Baby Care Basics class.
Please note that only the series start date is listed below. The series will continue for the following three consecutive weeks (same day of week, same time). This is a total of four classes.

PLEASE NOTE: Some dates of our Prenatal 4-week classes are being held via Mayo Clinic's use of the Zoom platform. Zoom classes are noted next to the dates below.
